Abstract

The performance of rice was enhanced by inoculation with cyanobacteria and urea at 72 rather than 144 kg N ha −1 without inoculation. Response in terms of plant height, productive tillering, yield or grain N-content to the insecticides Diazinon, Endosulfan or Carbofuran (active ingredients: 14, 2–5 and 10%, respectively) differed with the different amounts of urea fertilizer applied and inoculation with the cyanobacteria. Inoculation plus urea at 72 kg N ha −1 with Diazinon at 15kgha −1 gave the best plant performance, the highest grain yield and N-content and the most profitable chemical fertilizer N-use efficiency.
