Abstract

Fertility and duration of fertility of walnut-combed male domestic fowl were studied, comparing RRPp and RrPp individuals. Males homozygous at the rose comb locus had lower fertility and shorter duration of fertility than heterozygotes. Presence of the gene for pea comb did not alleviate the effect of homozygosity for rose comb on fertility, and therefore genetic dubbing by incorporating walnut comb into commercial stocks would not be desirable.
