Abstract

In this paper, the usage, characteristics, and typical psychological consequences of the four most commonly utilized reproductive agents, clomiphene citrate, human menopausal gonadotropin, danazol, and GnRH analogs, are discussed. Physical consequences such as excessive facial hair growth, pelvic pain and menopausal-like symptoms are also addressed where relevant. Recommendations are made for therapists working with infertile women. Emphasis is placed on the social and cultural context within which women must negotiate their treatment and lifestyle options, and live with the consequences of their infertility.
