Abstract

For transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people, gender affirming treatment may affect their reproductive function. Therefore, fertility counseling for TGD people is a crucial aspect of their healthcare journey. However, clear fertility counseling guidance for TGD people is missing. This guide aims to provide a counseling framework for healthcare providers and fertility specialist counseling TGD people during a medical transition. Fertility counseling includes the use of gender-sensitive language, providing a safe and culturally sensitive environment, respecting autonomy, and including all parenting possibilities, as well as discussing different fertility preservation options when genetic parenthood is a desired part of the journey to parenthood.
