Extensive investigations of natural and synthetic steroids in animals disclose: (a) highly potent ovulation inhibitors which are also active progestins; (b) certain substances exhibiting potency greater in oral administration than by parenteral administration; (c) anti-progestins of two types, estrogenic and competitive inhibitors; and (d) significant ovum blighting by anti-progestins.Clinical trials with two highly active steroidal ovulation inhibitors, norethynodrel and ethynodiol diacetate confirm studies made on animals which indicate the superior potency of the latter, particularly when orally administered....
