Abstract

Abstract Beer is brewed and consumed worldwide. This chapter digs deep into the nature of the current world of beer: How do countries compare in terms of their beer production and consumption? How does beer consumption relate to that of wine and hard liquor, and what are the driving forces for differences, such as taxation? How do the states within the United States differ in beer consumption and taxation? The chapter describes the trajectory of the craft brewing scene in the United States, including how a craft beer is defined. Which are the biggest brewing companies in the world and the most successful brands?
