Abstract

In this paper we have shown a potential approach to fabricate relaxor materials by making a ceramic composite of environmental friendly Ba-based diffuse ferroelectric BaZrxTi1−xO3 (x = 0.20 and 0.25) with non-ferroelectric magnesium oxide (MgO). The dielectric behaviour of BaZrxTi1−xO3 : 50 wt% MgO (x = 0.20 and 0.25) composites has been studied in the temperature range from 300–11 K. The degree of relaxation (γ) has been estimated using the modified Curie–Weiss law. The dielectric relaxation rate follows the Vogel–Fulcher relation with a characteristic cooperative freezing at a specific temperature. These BaZrxTi1−xO3 composites have also shown strong dc electric field dependent dielectric behaviour.
