Abstract

La-substituted Bismuth ferrite, with the chemical composition Bi1-xLaxFeO3 (with x = 0.0, 0.05, 0.10 and 0.15), were synthesized using Sol-gel technique and sintered at a relatively low temperature of 600 °C. XRD-spectra confirmed the formation of rhombohedrally distorted perovskite phase up to x = 0.10 and the presence of peaks corresponding to orthorhombic perovskite phase of LaFeO3 at x = 0.15. PE loop shows the polarization behavior of the prepared samples. Studies of dielectric constants and dielectric loss factors were also carried out. La-substitution of x = 0.05 shows optimum saturation and remanent magnetization. Possible mechanisms explaining the various trends of the different properties are being discussed.
