Abstract

Normal components of tensor magnetostriction hysteresis loops for a 25.4 mm ferrite permanent magnet cube where magnetization takes place entirely by rotation has been measured. A model for hysteresis in magnetostriction based on the rotation of an elliptic grain has been developed to account for the observed magnetostriction. Both mean-field interactions and elastic easy axis distribution are used to explain the measured magnetostriction loops.
