Abstract

AbstractFenoctimine sulfate was demonstrated to exist in two distinct crystalline forms, i.e., form A (low melting, 0.5 mole water of hydration), and form B (high melting, anhydrous). These forms can exist separately, in crystalline mixtures with each other, and with varying amounts of surface moisture. Each form can be converted into the other under appropriate wetting or drying conditions. In an aqueous environment, e.g., the gastro-intestinal tract, the surface of solid fenoctimine sulfate exists as form A.
