Abstract
Ingredients in toothpaste may cause allergic and irritant contact stomatitis (Table 1). Flavoring agents are most commonly incriminated, which are present in 95% of toothpastes.1 Less frequently, cinnamon, fluoride, and anethole (anise camphor) have been suggested to cause local irritation.2,3 Pruritis and flexural dermatitis to toothpaste has been reported in a 50-year-old woman sensitized to stannous fluoride on patch testing.4
