Abstract
We propose the use of femtosecond laser pulses in the transient collisional excitation nickel-like tungsten 4.3 nm `water window' X-ray laser scheme. The advantage of using ultra-short pulse excitation is that it can migrate the negative effect of the nickel-like resonant line re-absorption in dense plasmas on the X-ray laser gain.
