Abstract

Femoral neck fracture following total hip arthroplasty (THA) is an infrequent complication. Of 1808 T-28 and TR-28 THA performed at our clinic, 32 fractures of the femoral stem occurred, but none through the femoral neck. Two femoral neck fractures ten years following Trapezoidal-28 THA have recently been referred to our clinic. A separation of the head and neck of a Dual Lock prosthesis at two years was also referred. Failure of these implants suggests that significant forces are encountered in this region of a femoral component. Newer modular implant designs must consider these loads.
