Abstract

Femoral anteversion is regarded as the extent of the torsion of the femoral head. Several methods for measuring femoral anteversion using CT image have been described since 1980. We introduce the 3D modeling method for measuring femoral anteversion in this paper. In this method, Femoral anteversion is determined by calculating all required parameters with the boundary data of femur. To evaluate the 3D modeling method, the results by this method are compared with those by the conventional method - the 2D CT method and the 3D imagine method. The data from the direct method is used as reference values. The average error of the 3D modeling method, the 2D CT method and the 3D imaging method was 1.1°(SD. 1.19), 5.33°(SD 1.93), and 0.45°(SD 0.53), respectively. In conclusion, the 3D modeling method proved to be a better technique since the procedures reduced the processing time and eliminates manual errors, thus provided accurate data.
