Abstract

In June 1999, IFjP editor Kathleen Jones travelled to South Africa as leader of a delegation organized by People to People Ambassador Programs, a USbased citizen-to-citizen exchange programme. The delegation's purpose was to provide professionals with the opportunity to explore women's rights and women's struggles in the new South Africa. Among the organizations with which Jones met was Agenda (http://www.agenda.org.za/), a feminist journal based in Durban, which has been in operation for more than ten years. Agenda 's mission is to be 'a feminist project . committed to giving women a forum, a voice and skills to articulate their needs and interests towards transforming unequal gender relations in South Africa'. Jones (KJ) interviewed Lou Haysom (LH) on many topics, including the women's movement in contemporary South Africa, globalization and the nature of feminist publishing. Below are highlights from that conversation.
