Abstract

AbstractThe psychological literature about American Muslim women is sparse, suggesting that little is known about this population. Much of the research conducted on Muslim women originates in the United Kingdom and Canada. The American context experienced in the United States is unique and colors the experiences of, and challenges faced by, American Muslim women. This chapter provides an introduction to the American Muslim population, the Islamic faith that unites and is common to these women, and some common psychosocial concerns experienced by American Muslim women.
