Abstract

This book focuses on the lived experience of women and the construction of their health identity. In this chapter, arguments around how feminist identity impacts on women’s identities is taken into account and if this has, in fact, changed the way that women live in society is investigated. Also, because women’s lives are positioned in the embodied lived experience, a critical realist framework is appropriate. Critical realism and aspects of narrative truth are also explored later in this chapter. Initially, the position of women in relation to health identity and society will be discussed.
