Abstract

Abstract It is a common belief that Latin American feminism owes much to European and North American ideas, but it developed its own idiosyncrasies, since, as opposed to what happened in other places, it was less concerned with issues such as the right to vote, more with the larger goal of attaining legal and social equality. However, many feminists nowadays believe that the history of Latin American feminism has to be considered independently from any external influence, and that we can find examples of early feminism even in the precolonial period.
