Abstract

We widely explore the positive effect of female executives on ECI, the energy consumption per unit of output. We find that female executives will promote ECI reduction of corporate. And the result holds after a series of robustness and endogeneity tests. Further analysis indicates that the positive effect will be stronger in enterprises with lower level of environmental regulation, in heavily polluting industry, and whose executives with more environmental background. Moreover, female executives will reduce ECI by promoting green innovation, both in quantity and quality. Our results enrich the study of female executives on corporate environmentally friendly development, focusing on green innovation as underlying channel.
