Abstract
As many industries brace for the difficult times ahead, several companies go for lean as the key to turn difficult market conditions into competitive advantage. One of the concepts of lean is the use of flexible manpower lines. Indeed, historically, lean companies have often thrived in economic downturns, just like Toyota. This paper discusses how flexible manpower lines can provide the answer for companies struggling to maintain productivity with fluctuating demand.
