Abstract

The feeding range in the steel castings has been experimentally studied. It was found that it depends not only on casting modulus, but also its shape and the position in the mould. Thermal insulation of the riser results in the creation of concentrated contraction cavity, comparing with non insulated riser. Method of calculation of the riser number and dimensions should take into account the modulus of the all system: casting-risers, instead of casting alone.
