Abstract

Summary Ward, D. 1989. Feeding ecology of Crowned, Blackwinged and Lesser Blackwinged Plovers. Ostrich 60: 97–102. The feeding ecology of three closely related cursorial insectivorous bird species, the Crowned Plover Vanellus coronatus, Blackwinged Plover V. melanopterus and the Lesser Blackwinged Plover V. lugubris, was investigated. A high degree of dietary overlap was found in areas of sympatry. In addition, feeding preferences of Crowned and Blackwinged Plovers in the laboratory are described.
