Abstract

Four clinicians and four consumers over 70 years of age took part in workshops to reflect on aspects of care for older people in acute hospitals. One of the themes their discussion generated was problems with food. Packaging was hard to open and ensuring that patients had eaten was not considered as important as giving medication. A further example of the lack of importance given to nutrition was the loss of technical aids for eating supplied by occupational therapists.
