Abstract

Optical feedback in semiconductor lasers gives rise to a variety of phenomena; in some cases it is difficult to provide an explanation and a consequent modeling without making use of complex machinery that prevents anybody from handling a set of few parameters that would control the phenomenon (and many be its exploitation). The feedback-induced kink is one of these phenomena. It is well known, it can always be seen, and it is perfectly reproducible; moreover, a link can be established in a phenomenological way with the feedback ratio (and the working temperature).
