Abstract

AbstractThe separation of azeotropic mixtures is one of the most energy‐intensive separations in petrochemical processes. In this study the effect of feed‐splitting on one arrangement with heat integration is investigated in order to reduce the energy demand of the heterogeneous azeotropic distillation of ethanol–water process, using Hysys process simulation software and relevant optimization analysis. The total energy demands of the new and conventional processes are compared, revealing that a 27.5 % reduction in energy is possible for the intensified process.
