Abstract

^TyTOU name the Federal agency, and we have had some relationI ship with it! This was the comment of one official when I asked him what Federal agencies our university had dealt with over the years. While not entirely true, over 30 Federal agencies do conduct business with offices of the university. In most instances, of course, there is an exchange of correspondence, a report, or some form of paperwork created or received and filed in one or more copies. The staff time devoted to this relationship and the amount of file space utilized vary from a few minutes and one sheet of paper to several hundred manhours and a records accumulation of many cubic feet. For example, a request of a Civil Service Commission investigator for verification of the employment of a certain person is a routine matter that takes very little time and creates only one letter. The establishment of the Center for Vocational and Technical Education on the o. s. u. campus, however, did require hundreds of manhours of time and will result in the creation of several hundred cubic feet of records.
