Abstract

The article presents the results of a study of value orientations of patients with schizophrenia. The research objective is to study the features of thinking about value orientations of patients with schizophrenia. The comparative analysis of the research results of 111 schizophrenic patients and 102 people from the conventional norm group enabled to reveal and analyze the structure of the preferred and rejected value orientations compared to the conventional norm group and the hysterical accentuation group. In the research, the methods of pairwise comparison and direct naming of close and distant values were used. The commonly shared groups of values were revealed, as well as the peculiar values-related position of schizophrenic patients. A gender factor and features of value orientations of schizophrenic patients were distinguished. The obtained results, related to the value preferences of schizophrenic patients (the values of intellect, success and faith are estimated much higher compared to the conventional norm group), the conflict-provoking nature of “pleasure” value and the gender factor, broaden the conception of the personality factor of these patients and enable to build the rehabilitation programs taking the value factor into account.
