Abstract

This work is devoted to the consideration of motivation in sports as the main factor influencing the adaptation and formation of new physical and psychological methods of correction for people with disabilities. Aspects of the emergence, formation, active development and popularization of sledge hockey, as an adapted sport for persons with special educational needs, in Russia and abroad, are considered. The categories of persons to whom this method of correction is available, as well as the difficulties of their adaptation, are indicated. The historical aspect of the appearance of the term “motivationˮ and its features, the factors of appearance, the relationship with self-esteem, as well as internal components from the position of various authors are described. In conclusion, the results of motivation studies are presented and the problems that require attention for the development of this Paralympic sport are outlined.
