Abstract

The modern stage of teaching foreign languages in higher educational institutions of Ukraine is characterized by significant changes in connection with the transition to new standards focused on the European model of education. Improvement of the language education system involves monitoring the quality of teaching a foreign language with the help of modern test technologies which help to measure the level of the formation of linguistic and communicative competences objectively. The article deals with the features of linguodidactic testing and the possibilities of its practical use in the process of teaching RSL to foreign students. The aim of the work is to study the optimization of the test control in the language training of foreign students by introducing a unified system of phased testing in the educational process. The article defines linguodidactic tests for basic functions test control (learning function and control), provided the general typology of tests that include free-response tasks (a), multiple-choice tasks, matching tasks and sequencing tasks. In the practical part, the author examines in detail the features of the general faculty phased language testing, developed and implemented in the educational process at the Department of Philology of Kharkov Automobile and Highway University, which provides language training for foreign students in Russian and Ukrainian as second languages. In particular, the author conducts analysis of current, cycle and final testing, the issue of designing test materials is considered, a typology is given. The tasks that are relevant for carrying out different types of control, represent the advantages and disadvantages of traditional and computer testing. The novelty of the work is to attempt the practical implementation of the idea of systematic testing of the language competence of foreign students by introducing into the educational process a unified, locally standardized system of test control. The author concludes that the step-by-step testing of the level of language competence of foreign students throughout their period of study at the preparatory faculty ensures the objectivity, consistency and systematic control of the procedure, promotes optimization of the educational process.
