Abstract

Currently, against the backdrop of the common fight against the coronavirus, the issue of using plasma with specific antibodies from donors who have recovered from the coronavirus infection for transfusion to patients in the acute stage of the process has been repeatedly raised. In Russia, this practice was first resorted to in St. Petersburg, but it is too early to speak about any high efficiency of these transfusions. It is necessary to take into account the fact that in the presence of three hundred patients requiring immune plasma transfusion, the antibody titer was detected in only 12 donors. Given the circumstances, it is essential to remember the importance of donation intervals, whether it be plasma or whole blood. Failure to adhere to these intervals, the lack of regular monitoring of clinical and biochemical blood parameters in donors, and failure to comply with recommendations on diet and rest between donations can lead to decompensation of recovery processes and seriously affect the donor’s health. Rehabilitation of donors during the recovery period requires the normalization of the diet and in some cases — oral administration of iron supplements.
