Abstract
A large part of the produced aluminum hydroxides and oxides from bauxites and other aluminum content raw materials has non-metallurgical use. Activated aluminum oxide is one of the chemical grade aluminas. This product is used in adsorption and catalytic processes and for other purposes. Pseudoboehmite is the most important precursor for activated alumina. Aluminum-containing raw materials are used to produce alumina and chemical products. There is a common method to produce the pseudoboehmite for activated alumina there are used gibbsite or industrial aluminum-containing liquors. These liquors are neutralized with intense mixing with another liquor or gas, then dewatered through pressure filtration, then washed with an aluminum hydroxide catalyst. The choice of a compromise process technology for a specific alumina plant should be done based on a feasibility study and depends on customer needs and the specific technology of the alumina production etc. Comparison of rheological properties, pore structure, and properties of the activated alumina granules has been carried out for pseudoboehmite produced with aluminate, sulfate and nitrate technologies.
