Abstract

This paper presents results on the effective piezoelectric properties of the 0–3 composites that are based on PbTiO 3-type ferroelectric ceramics and contain aligned spheroidal inclusions. The piezoelectric coefficients d 3 j * , e 3 j * , g 3 j * , and h 3 j * ( j = 1 and 3) of these composites are determined by means of the effective field method as functions of the volume concentration of the ceramic inclusions and of their aspect ratio. Some features of the concentration behaviour of the effective piezoelectric coefficients d 3 j * , g 3 j * and the hydrostatic piezoelectric coefficient g h * , extreme points of different piezoelectric coefficients and their anisotropy are analysed for the case of the prolate ceramic inclusions with the positive piezoelectric coefficients e 3 j ( 1 ) > 0 . It is shown that advantages of the studied 0–3 piezo-active composites are associated with the considerable g h * , d 33 * / d 33 ( 1 ) and g 33 * / g 33 ( 1 ) values as well as with the variable piezoelectric anisotropy.
