Abstract

1. The dependence of the absorption coefficient on the vibration amplitude in an elastic system with hysteresis leads to a situation whereby high-frequency resonances of the system affect the amplitudes of lowfrequency resonances. 2. Since this effect is determined by the character of the amplitude dependence of the absorption coefficient rather than by the actual value of the coefficient, the effect may be substantial with slight strain as well. 3. In certain cases, the effect can be calculated by means of approximate formulas (1) and (3), generalizing the method of corrected friction characteristics to the case of simultaneous resonance at several natural frequencies of the elastic system.
