Abstract

Crystallographic laws governing the formation of the structure of single crystals of nitrogen-bearing high-alloy Kh18AG20 steel during the δ → γ(bcc → fcc) polymorphic transformation were studied using the methods of metallography, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy. A two-phase pseudo single crystal with nearly equally proportioned structural constituents was obtained from the initial ferrite single crystal of nitrogen-bearing high-alloy Kh18AG20 steel at room temperature. It was established that austenite was precipitated from ferrite by a crystallographically ordered mechanism according to orientation relationships similar to those proposed by Kurdjumov and Sachs for the γ and α phases. Six crystallographic austenite orientations were realized in the volume of a pseudo single crystal.
