Abstract

The article describes the history of a Common Information Model (CIM) concept emergence and the background for the transition to a unified format of information exchange based on CIM standards both in the world and in Russia. It is also said how the transition to CIM standards allows to solve the utilities problems in terms of the technological information exchange and to cross over to a qualitatively new level of power system management. A description of the current open standards of data exchange developed for simplifying data integration and evolving to meet the changing requirements for data exchange is presented; current stage of the transition to data exchange based on CIM standards in Russia is also described.
