Abstract
The theme of UNDP'S eighth Human Development Report (HDR) is the eradication of poverty. This topic is a good complement to last year's, economic growth and human development. The report deals with the concept and measurement of poverty from a human development perspective as well as with the extent of worldwide poverty, the coping behaviour of the poor, the impact of globalisation upon poverty and the political dimensions of poverty eradication. The report ends up with six priority actions for eradicating absolute poverty in the early 21st century.
