Abstract

AbstractThe Tal-Patra manuscript is one of the most precious documents which have to be preserved to explore the ancient secrets in the fields of medical fields such as Ayurveda, Siddha, historical moments, historic pandemics, art, astronomy, etc. In assessing and manipulating text from documents, Natural Language Processing plays a crucial role. In this article, the different feature engineering techniques were an experiment for Tal-Patra manuscript text such as Bag-of-Words (BoW), TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency) and Word Embedding (Word2vec). The Tal-Patra manuscript of Kuzhanthai Pini Marunthu (Child-Related Medicine) was used as a dataset. As pre-processing steps include sentences and word tokenization, this research work began with tokenization. Then the part of speech (POS) was tagged, and then, feature engineering techniques were performed to analyze the text. For the Tamil Tal-Patra manuscript, word embedding techniques (Word2vec) performed well compared to the above-mentioned feature engineering techniques.KeywordsTal-PatraTF-IDFBoWWord2vecTokenizationPOS
