Abstract
Abstract In this exploration of trends and projections in doctoral education for social work there are presented a brief historical summary and a review of existing studies of doctoral education. Some reports point toward increasing productivity during the next decade in all doctoral education. Central objectives in social work relate to social policy, teaching, and administration. Research training in social work is less well-developed. If services training resources are seriously curtailed, doctoral programs might have difficulty maintaining the growth rate of recent years. The need for more emphasis on post-doctoral education is underscored.
