Abstract

Nurul Quran Islamic boarding school (so called pondok pesantrenin Bahasa Indonesia)would develop a quail farming business to provide agriculture skills and develop entrepreneurship for the students and alumni. Quailfarming is selected because it is relatively easy, lucrative, has productivity up to 90%, produces130-300 eggs per week, and does not requirean extensive farming area. This study aims toanalyzethe feasibility study of the quail farming business at Nurul QuranIslamic boarding school, Bali,Indonesia. The method usedin this study was purposive sampling. The economic analysisincludes cost, revenue, Return on Investment and SWOT analysis. Thefindingsindicate that the quail farming business will be most efficient at a scale of 3,000birdswithatotalcostofRp214,849,351andtotalrevenueof Rp297,975,000per period.The return per cost of the business is 1.39; the boarding schoolwill achieve areturnofinvestmentupto51.22%.TheSWOTanalysisshows that the quail farming business at the boarding schoolhas an excellent opportunity. However,the boarding schoolshouldhavesomestrategiestominimizetheweaknessesandthreatsthatcouldchallenge the business. The boarding schoolneeds to develop human resources before starting thebusiness, maximize the potential of the boarding school, market access, technology,and networkingwith the Muslimcommunity as themarketing strategy for the quail farmingbusiness.
