Abstract

Off-grid hybrid renewable energy system which are eco-friendly are becoming an effective option for remote rural electrification. The Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES) considered in present study utilizes available renewable energy resources such as wind, solar and battery along with Diesel Generator as backup. The present work aims at designing cost optimized HRES for fulfilling electrical demand of remote areas for the selected village cluster in the Taluk of Sagar, Shivamogga district in the state of Karnataka. For energy management studies, the Demand Side energy Management (DSM) scheme with Load shifting is suggested. The environmental feasibility study is carried out and compared for the cases of ‘with DSM’ and ‘without DSM’ strategy applied. With the variation of Diesel price in Indian scenario the sensitivity analysis is also carried out.
