Feasibility of using aortic annulus measurement from two-dimensional transthoracic echocardiography for transcatheter aortic valve device sizing

Abstract

Computed Tomography (CT) is the recommended imaging modality for aortic root measurement prior to transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). The device-sizing is based on the aortic annulus measurement. In the setting where CT is not available or cannot be performed, three-dimensional echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is recommended. However, both modalities require expertise and are not widely available.
