Abstract

AbstractMultilevel architectures based on semiconductor nanostructures appear as promising designs for unipolar midinfrared detectors. In this paper we theoretically investigate their feasibility in the terahertz frequency range. Here, the performances of common quantum‐well photodetectors, based on a single bound subband, are severely hindered by high dark current and low Tblip values. We will demonstrate that, in this respect, the multi‐subband scheme represents a better alternative to the conventional design. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
