Abstract
The feasibility of on-line Partial Discharge (PD) monitoring for condition monitoring of medium voltage (MV) cable systems was studied. A total of 19 MV feeders with two different cable types and various ages have now been succesfully monitored for 2–18 months in Helsinki. These PD measurement sensors can be installed without any switching activities and thus interruptions. On-line monitoring indicated similar results with off-line PD measurements. It is stated that on-line monitoring can give reliable condition information of MV cable assets in real time.
