Abstract

Underwater target detection based on the gravity field is a passive detection method. In this paper, gravity and gravity gradient are used to detect the underwater target. Where gravity is the first-order derivative of the gravitational potential and gravity gradient is the second-order derivative of the gravitational potential. This article first carried out a feasibility analysis and further error analysis. At present, setting gravity's accuracy is 0.02mGal and gravity gradient's accuracy is 10 -4 E. The simulations show that under current the accuracy of the gravimeter and gravity gradiometer, when detection range is 0 to 1000m, the detection error which based on the gravity and gravity gradient target detection methods is within 5%, which is instructive for underwater target detection based on gravity and gravity gradient.
