Abstract

Introduction. A complication of spontaneous abortion or termination of pregnancy, incomplete abortion remains a big problem for Malagasy women. The aim was to demonstrate the feasibility and benefits of drug therapy of the incomplete abortion under 12 weeks by using miso- prostol. Patients and methods. This is a retrospective descriptive transversal study from January 2007 to July 2007. During this period, we were able to identify 48 cases of which 41 were treated with misoprostol. Treatment consists of oral administration of 2 tablets of 200μg of misoprostol, sublingual, as a single dose with clinical and ultrasound control seven days after treatment. Results. In our study, 75.6% of patients were under 29 years and they are paucipares. They had an incomplete abortion under 9 weeks in 65.85% of cases. The reasons for consultation were dominated by bleeding. Ultrasound examination was revealed image of retention under 30 mm in 7.61% of cases and images of gestational sac were visualized in 7.31%. The control at the seventh day of treatment showed 97.56% of success. Conclusion. The use of misoprostol in the medical treatment of incomplete abortions is an alternative to surgical method. In equal effectivity with another method, it has the advantage of being easy to use, accessible and acceptable.
