Abstract

Fe-Mg partitioning between ilmenite and spinel was experimentally determined as a function of temperature. Chemically homogeneous ilmenite and spinel were obtained in experimental products. Solid solutions of the minerals were assumed to be binary regular solutions. Isotherms in Roozeboom diagram are reasonably explained by the following thermodynamic parameters. Wil=-1.779 T+8242 (J/mol) Wsp=-1.53T+6142 (J/mol) _??_G (l)=-2.747 T-7362 (J) Absolute values of the thermodynamic parameters obtained may deviate from the true ones, but these parameters are available for obtaining the ilmenite-spinel geothermometer.
