Abstract

The paper deals with the simulation of the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) response to the Iandmines buried in a realistically simulated soil. GPR is a geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. However, since the detection of anti-personnel (AP) Iandmines represents a life threatening application of GPR, simulation and analysis of the response in order to apply correct interpretation in the real-life situation is of paramount importance. In this paper, gprMax open source program that simulates electromagnetic wave propagation is used. The program facilitates Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) method to solve Maxwell’s equations. The simulations of the Iandmine response presented in this paper serve as an opener to the subject of more comprehensive analysis oriented to demining operations and represents an effort to adequately model real life scenarios.
