Abstract

In this paper fault detection and classification of a FDST based differential relaying scheme of a STATCOM (Static synchronous compensator) compensated single circuit transmission line is proposed. STATCOM is placedat middlepoint of the transmission line length of 400Km. A novel approach of FDST (Fast Discrete S-transform) is used to detect the fault and classify the type of fault. The scheme starts processing after recovering the current signal from current transformer placed at both sending and receiving end of the transmission line through GPS system to obtain the spectral energy (SE). Thus the Differential Energy (DE) of each phase current is computed by subtracting the SE obtained at sending end and the SE obtained at receiving end. DE is obtained at each phase current is the key factor for deciding the fault detection and classification of the transmission line. The proposed algorithm is very simple and accurate for estimation of fault analysis.
