Abstract

This paper proposes a fault-tolerant control method for dual three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drives with the single-phase inter-turn short-circuit (ITSC) fault. In this method, the field-weakening control is used to reduce the faulty current, and the current injection is used to suppress the torque ripple. After the fault occurs, the faulty three-phase winding no longer generates the torque. Instead, it is only used for weakening the air gap magnetic field. And with the information of fault severity, the amplitude and the phase of the injected current can be calculated to change the current reference values so that the torque ripple can be reduced for fault-tolerant operation. The effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method have been validated by simulations.
