Abstract

Nowadays computer systems are used to carry out critical functionalities. The failure of the system leads to the loss of life, financial losses, and damage to the environment. Traditional systems have two states either working state or failure state. After the introduction of the fault-tolerant system, it has various states other than these two as it continues to work after the partial failure with the degraded manner. So, the reliability and performance of the system are affected adversely. The reliability and performance should be analyzed, considering the fault-tolerant mechanism of the system. In this paper, a comparative study of fault-tolerant techniques is done. Further, the interrelation of fault-tolerant techniques with the performability parameters is established to achieve optimal performability by considering fault tolerance.
